Method & common questions

How to calculate your net worth

Your net worth is the value of what you own minus what you owe, measured at a point in time. This calculator adds your assets and subtracts your outstanding liabilities. It is an estimate, rather than a valuation or financial recommendation.

Net worth = total assets − total liabilities

A simple example

If your assets total ₹70,00,000 and your debts total ₹26,75,000, your net worth is ₹43,25,000. Select “Use sample figures” to load this example into the calculator.

Build a consistent snapshot

Use balances and estimated market values from roughly the same date. Enter the full current value of your share of a property under assets, and your outstanding share of the home loan under liabilities. This avoids subtracting the loan twice. Leave categories that do not apply blank.

Should I include my home?

You can include the current estimated market value of your ownership share. Enter the corresponding outstanding mortgage separately. The calculator includes property in total net worth; this does not mean that value is available as cash.

Can I calculate my household’s net worth?

Yes. Combine the assets and debts of the people included in your household snapshot. Count jointly owned assets and shared debts once, and use a consistent ownership basis throughout.

How should I count retirement savings and insurance?

Include current retirement account balances, such as EPF, PPF, NPS, or other retirement savings. These balances may have withdrawal restrictions. Do not count an insurance policy’s coverage amount as an asset. If a policy has a current surrender value, you can enter that value under other assets.

What does a negative net worth mean?

It means the debts you entered exceed the assets you entered. The calculator preserves negative results. This snapshot alone does not measure your income, ability to meet payments, or future financial position.

Does changing the currency convert my balances?

No. The currency selector changes the currency symbol and number formatting only. Convert any foreign balances into your chosen currency before entering them, using an exchange rate appropriate to your snapshot date.

Are my figures stored?

This calculator keeps the amounts in temporary browser memory. It does not save or submit them, and refreshing or leaving the page clears them. The early-access invitation opens a separate registration form and does not transfer your calculator figures.
